review/transfer issues in private repository

I've just moved the tree mortality data to this public repo. There are some issues related to it in the private repo. Could you please review these and follow up as needed? (address when possible, close issues that are done, move current issues to this repo?) I'm thinking of @alyssaterrell for mortality-related issues, @gonzalezeb for others.

This is non-urgent, but would be good to do as part of set-up for the mort census.
