I'm still rattling ideas around and looking for inspirational source texts, but it's probably going to be something that combines disparate instructional materials with the framework of a walking guidebook.

In the end I dropped the walking aspect and just went with mixed up instructional texts. Initially it was going to be a narrator jumping between sources and being a bad multitasker and having to double back and repeat steps, but when I was filtering out the "(figure 1)" stuff in the text, I realised that was entertaining in itself and leant into it.

So this is 50,000 words jumping deadpan between a dozen or so instructional books, three at a time, and adding references to randomly-chosen illustrations to the sidebars.

Double-checking the word count it was a couple of thousand short (my in-script counter was including HTML markup), so I've hastily generated a replacement second edition.
