To my understanding the earlier partition layouts couldn't use dmcrypt for encryption because of mtd/yaffs are incompatible with it. But since now the whole /data resides on single block device on sd-card, I see no reason why it shouldn't work. And F2FS also implements file-based encryption, though that's to my knowledge not supported by Marshmallow.
Still, the option to encrypt does nothing on my device (iyokan), or rather it reboots without encrypting anything. Is this a bug or just not implemented feature?
