https://github.com/donmelton/video-transcoding-scripts has a HandbrakeCli wrapper script called transcode-video.sh that adds some nice features: selecting target bitrate to get good compression vs quality tradeoff, selecting audio channels to retain surround, advanced auto detecting crop, and burning forced subtitles onto the video.
I use it with --mkv to retain the output in that format rather than mp4 (default).
Adding transcode-video.sh script as another compressor choice would be a great addition. Alternatively that logic could be adopted into autorip (it has a permissive license) but it may not suite all users so might need further configuration choice.
