Hello, I'm having trouble opening portal 2 in VR and it only displays it as a separate window. I have already disabled theatre mode, and I have tried opening SteamVR first before playing the game.

I'm using a Quest 2 with SteamLink. Also, recently I had an issue with opening Portal 2 on PC, and the only fix was to launch with -vulkan. Not really sure if that is the cause of the issue. I have attached an image of what it looks like.

Same issue here, Virtual Desktop updated and hasn't worked since.

The mod replaces the DirectX 9 library, with Vulkan it will not work.

Oh wow, thx for letting me know! Do you know any possible ways to open Portal 2 without vulkan? Even without mods, my game doesn't even open :(

Since you're using a Quest 2, you could use Virtual Desktop + Virtual Desktop Streamer > Steam VR > Launch Portal 2 and I've seen others have success with Oculus Link > Launch Steam VR > Portal 2. Oh, and use Open-GL for compatibility.

Make sure you're graphics drivers are up to date, the most recent VD application requires the newest gfx drivers or it wont load into VR mode which is how I got mine back up and running.

I have tried opening through virtual desktop and it keeps crashing without vulkan. It seems that it's some kind of PC problem?? cause without vr the application won't open at all ;-;

Have you tried or are able to switch to OpenGL instead of Vulkan? @farmboy0 mentioned that the Vulkan api wont work.

I'm having the same issue. Have been at it for hours and it just won't start in VR. Just in a floating screen.
Windows 10, RTX3080.
Any tips?

Updating my graphics drivers fixed it for me.
Open Steam VR before Portal 2

I'm using Quest 2 > Virtual Desktop > Steam VR > Portal 2

I'm using Quest 2 > Virtual Desktop > Steam VR > Portal 2

Installing the last NVidia update did fix it!
Usually I’m careful with installing these since Virtual Desktop usually states a specific Nvidia Version.
Thanks.

I'm having the same issue, it was working fine before but only launches in flat mode now.
Launch non VR games in theater mode setting is disabled, RTX 3070 Ti, latest drivers (560.94).
Quest 3 > Virtual Desktop > Steam VR > Portal 2
Any idea?

Hmm, Have you ensured VD is fully updated? I'd also recheck and potentially do a clean install of the gfx drivers.

The only other fix I know of is a bit of work... Sideload (sidequest) earlier version of Virtual desktop and install the equivalent version streamer on PC, and if needed also install an older version of gfx drivers.

I confirm that was a driver issue, had an update a few days ago (561.09) and it's working fine again.
