Please fix the Gridview Extension. As mentioned in previous posts, the view is stacked and we can't even verify students' video presence as well as their activity.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Mahalo!!!

This one has long been abandoned. From the Grid View (Fix) GitHub page:

UPDATE 02/11/2021:
It turns out that Google is testing an update of Meet that disables the Grid View extension. This is why sometimes it works and sometimes not (you see the boxes in a vertical bar). If you seriously need Grid View right now, you might consider refreshing a few times the browser tab (you should end up loading the old compatible version at a certain point).
I am really sorry but I have to temporarily remove the extension from Chrome Web Store. In fact, updating Grid View would require a huge amount of work or may not be feasible at all. Please, remember that Google Meet introduced native grid view (up to 49 tiles).

How do I get it back if i cant redownload it

@Eagle-Man
Copy link

It's not mine, I'm just a user. You can ask icysapphire if they would put it back, but my guess is that they won't because it's broken. IF they get a fixed version, I'm sure they'll put it back, but until then, it will probably stay down. You could head over to the Grid View (Fix) GitHub page to download the code and install it manually, if you want.

Do you say that if we install the code manually, it will work? the meet is a disaster without it really, especially when presenting.. Any alternative guys?

@FoxForFriends

I gave up on trying to get it fixed, everyone is just vertical :( rip google meets!

@Eagle-Man

@Jkarhani What I’m saying is that if you have uninstalled it and would like to reinstall it (since it is no longer on the store), you can do so manually from the 1.39 code on its GitHub page. It will function exactly as that code version has, with all the same features and bugs.

The issue here is that Meet is being updated in a big way which breaks the GVF code, and it’s too much for an unpaid fourth-party to put the time into rewriting. Refreshing the Meet MAY get you the old version of the Meet code (it’s being tested randomly), and in this situation GVF will work, but once this code goes live, this is likely the end of Grid View.

@Eagle-Man

Further, I believe every other “Grid View” out there is based on the same code base, and thus will equally be affected.

Why don't you just generate the extension of the older version -1.39 - instead? it is difficult to apply it for teachers

@Eagle-Man
Copy link

As I said before, I did not make the extension, I am also a user. As such, I have no access to the Google Store account or to make the extension. Look up the instructions for manually installing an extension. And also, again, any code version will be affected, and this change will likely soon become permanent as soon as Google brings the code out of testing. It’s time to start a) using Meet’s Tiled View and sending feedback to Google about what you would like to see, or b) start looking for (or making your own) alternative.

BTW, I’m a teacher and I figured it out. It’s not too hard. Just make sure things are in the appropriate folder first.

Would you be able to make a tutorial on how to do this? Whether it's a video or just a list of steps it would be really helpful!

@spencer-html @FoxForFriends If you look at the post from the person who has most recently been maintaining the extension (IcySapphire), there will NOT be a fix anytime soon, if at all. Not unless someone else wants to take up the cause, learn the code, and then write a fix. But it sounds like it will require a large rewrite. Time to get used to the idea of not having it, and letting Google know what you need.

To install an old version:

  • go to IcySapphire's Grid View (fix) GitHub page
  • click the greed Code button, download ZIP
  • unpack the folder
  • read build.sh to ensure things are in the correct place (note: cp = copy, rm = remove/delete
  • go to Chrome's extensions and put Chrome in Developer Mode
  • manually install extension from the unpacked folder

But, one more time, this will NOT fix the problem. The problem will exist for all code versions, unless you happen to reload into old Meet code.

You can't. Those instructions were how to download and setup the Grid View, but you will still run into the same issue since Google's update prevents it.

It has been fixed for a while, if your using 3.0 that is.
All bugs and vertical issues were recovered. Even an option to see students when presenting :)
Hope this helps.

@NXxEpicXCreeperxX Where would one get v3.0? Last I heard was v1.41. Also, this is a new issue which IcySapphire has said will pretty much permanently disable Grid View, and they are not willing/able to put in the time to fix it.

@FoxForFriends As I said many times, there is no fix, and likely won't be one. The instructions are for installing Grid View, as it last was, despite it not being offered in the Chrome Store anymore. No fixes offered as none exist.

I tried it successfully , BUT it didn't work as expected .. not even close to 2 weeks ago :( thank you

@Jkarhani Can you PLEASE read what I wrote. There is no fix. What I posted was because people wanted to know how to reinstall GVF, but I said that it would NOT work in the way they wanted. It even stopped working before 2 weeks ago for some people. As Google becomes more confident with their code, the more it will be rolled out on a permanent basis to more users.

Yes sir I did, & I know that the problem is not from the extension..& I know that it's from google , this is why I told my colleagues to report a suggestion.
I wonder if the new code which will be rolled by google is as much useful.
Hope anyone who has this update tells us.
