Can't change language

When trying to change the application language using the available languages dropdown, the page reloads after selecting an option but the rendered language remains PT.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to 'home screen'
2. Click on 'navigation menu' (the "hamburger" icon on top right) to open the side panel
3. At the bottom, select a different language from the dropdown menu

Expected behavior
The application's language should change according to the selected language from the dropdown options.

Additional context
Sometimes, after picking a language option, it gives a server timeout error and shows the server generic error page.
