The first time i attempt to open EDMC from my start menu, nothing happens. then if i try again i get the error msg seen above. the icon shows up in my tray, but i never get the window opening on my PC

EDMarketConnector.exe --reset-ui will reset all UI-related options, including the remembered screen position.
Other than that you'd need to supply the log files, as directed by the bug report template (which you seem to have entirely ignored/deleted) and hope an active developer (no longer me) takes a look.
