The version of pandoc that's currently referenced is out of date. Rebuild pandoc using these instructions: https://gist.github.com/yoavram/4999956

The -fembed_data_files is important because it embeds the data files necessary for bibliographies and citations to work. Otherwise, pandoc just straight up hangs, which is very bad.

I ran that script to build new pandoc.tar.gz and pandoc-templates.tar.gz (currently 1.11.1 1.12.0). The results are available here if anybody wants to test them / copy to somewhere more offiicial.

@peterkeen I'll be happy to hear from you after you test this!

It would be really helpful to rebuild again now with v 1.12...

The link I posted above should point to 1.12.

I think it was 1.11 - or at least it didn't include the new handling of yaml blocks in a document header. This is 1.12 built the same way.

Sorry, I should have been clearer - it was 1.11 until shortly before I posted that comment saying that it has been updated to 1.12.

I bumped the pandoc version to 1.12.0.2 in docverter v1.0.3 and on c.docverter.com. I'll leave the issue open for a few more days in case you guys find problems.
