Remove NextResponse out of server functions and handle in API #263

Server functions should throw an error that is caught in the try-catch block in the API route.

Reasoning:

can handle error checking in the try-catch block based on calling location (i.e. client or server).
client = NextResponse
server = console.error/console.log (something along those lines).
