Issues with ESP8266 NodeMCU: how to make it work?

Hello, i thought i would ask here before i create an issue. The issue template has an overcomplicated second half so i will need to do it later.

Several years ago i got this library working with the ESP8266 development board known as NodeMCU and Arduino. Things were working pretty good so far. For some reason this library never worked on any other ESP8266 board, and does absolutely nothing when used with anything other than NodeMCU.

Recently i tried it again with the only one that works, but now all of a sudden it does what the other boards do, absolutely nothing. Is there something broken or is there a change in an update i am missing? If anyone has a fix and can help me i will gladly appreciate it. Thank you for your help.
